An amusing illustration of the oldest surviving Persian Rug (4th century BC) at the British Museum's shop, possibly inspired by The Simpsons!
The Pazyryk carpet was excavated in 1949 from the grave of a Scythian nobleman in the Altai Mountains in Siberia. When it was found it had been deeply frozen in a block of ice, which is why it is so well-preserved.
The Pazyryk carpet can be seen at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.
